-I read scriptures everyday!
-I made a budget for the week!
-I bought a gym pass to BYU!

Major Lessons of this Week:
-I know I said this last week, but holy cow does weekly planning make SUCH a difference in one's life!!!
-There really is power behind daily prayer, meditation, and scripture study.
-Truly understanding the why of something is the coal that feeds the engine within us. When we find ourselves with a choice presenting itself to us, we must understand the why behind each choice. The purer the desire the greater the power we gain within.

Meaningful Quotes:
-“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”-Marianne Williamson
-“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela
-“They did not know it was impossible so they did it.” -Mark Twain

-"If you talk about it, it’s a dream, if you envision it, it’s possible, but if you schedule it, it’s real.” -Anthony Robbins

Improvisation

One of last week's successes was my discovery of improvising with food.

I tend to think that I have "no food" when I notice that the ingredients for the recipes that I usually like to make are not all in my cupboard/fridge.
I challenged myself to use the food that I already have before I go out and buy some more.
The results? Quite revolutionary.

This was tilapia with a dill, kalamata olive, and peach relish. The freshness of the dill, the sourness of the olives, and the sweet of the peach made the tilapia taste like sweet bliss.

This was a salad with grape tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, avacado, green onion, and spinach. The dressing was lemon juice, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.

I made tapas one day- tuna with green onion, mozzarella, corn, spinach, cilantro, olive oil and balsamic vinegar all over an avocado.

This was salmon cooked with dill, and at the end was steamed with the lemon slices. The side was a fruit salad consisting of an apple, an orange, and a peach. Surprisingly this side went well with the fish.

Salmon cooked with green onion with a side of grilled artichoke and canned mandarin oranges...this was originally supposed to be on top of quinoa but I totally forgot that I had made some so....

...I made this for dessert! It was actually horrible. The quinoa with the mandarin oranges was good, but I made the mistake of putting the mandarin orange syrup from the can in there (trying to be resourceful here). When there wasn't a mandarin orange in a bite, I would have to pretty much pluug my nose to get it down.

Lesson learned.

This was my breakfast one day! Eggs with oregano and a side of quinoa. The yolk was quite tasty with the quinoa on the side!

I used the left over tapa mix, quinoa, and spinach to make this salad. Sprinkling the lemons' juice over the salad made it quite blissful.

After the last salad, I got paid (thank goodness). It was nice being able to eat so well, but that week I was a little out of balance as far as diet goes. I needed a lot more carbohydrates for my running workouts.

I finished the week off with only black beans in my cupboard and salmon in my freezer. I do have to say I was quite proud of this accomplishment. From this challenge I learned a lot:

1) Herbs and spices do wonders! I used to not buy them at all, because I thought it was a waste of money (which can be a whole other blog post). I'm SO glad that I had spices and herbs just hang out in my kitchen. Without them, this passed week would have been doable, but my food would have been a lot more depressing.

2) When I think "I have no food", I need to ask myself,"Do I really have no food? Or do I just don't know what to cook?"

3) I should probably eat everything that I have. Having a food storage is definitely needed (yet another blog post), but when you have no money to buy food, I think it's ok to use some of your food storage. I know a lot of people that buy vegetables and fruits, and they just sit in their refrigerator until spoiled. Then it gets thrown out and bought at the story again....scrub, rinse, repeat. It's amazing how much money one can save when they're using the groceries that they actually buy. Perhaps this is only revelation to me as a college student that at stressful times only wants to eat Taco Bell and Chick-Fil-A.

I'm glad that I decided to stop being lazy and get up on my feet to try something new. I learned a lot from and look forward to seeing what I can make these upcoming weeks.

Weekly Planning 1

Things to Celebrate:
-If figured out what I'd like to do with my life!
-I had the courage to talk to people about being a life coach!
-I talked to my friend who is also pursuing life coaching! #makingconnections
-I went on a really good date AND paddle boarded at the same time!
-I wasn't a complete homebody this week!
-I went to a spontaneous bonfire where I knew nobody!
-I made some dang good burrito bowls!
-I didn't eat alone for a few meals!
-I made some good goals while being realistic!
-I didn't purposely avoid an acquaintance while I was walking down a hall- I actually made eye contact and had a bit of a conversation with him!
-I didn't purposely avoid someone I hardly knew (different person) and ended up having a good conversation with him- he ended up having going a similar route as me and gave me some direction to reinforce my path that I'm going down for an occupation!
-I did a headstand ON A STAND UP PADDLEBOARD
-I gave out home teaching assignments!
-I helped do a lot of temple work for a lot of my friends' ancestors!

Major Lessons I learned This Week:
-Some people don't fully understand how to express their thoughts and feelings, so they may come across as rude- be patient, love them more.
-Communication is KEY! There has been some misunderstandings in the lab and some lack of communication causing lab partners to do no work, while others are doing all of the work. Strive for better connection- find ways to talk and clearly understand and describe what is going on/needed to be done.
-Knowing the why is greater than knowing the how. When one knows and fully understands the why, then the how will present themselves to the person.
-Knowing the "why" behind something will allow one to pursue anything and be able to make a difference.
-When a stranger does service for you, try to stop and get to know them. They're clearly a very unique and special person, you could definitely learn quite a bit from them.

Major Quotes:

"He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Sources of Inspiration:
-The person who went in the middle of the road to grab my scriptures that I forgot were on the top of my car, went totally out of their way to find me on social media, found a mutual friend, asked them if they had my number and then called me to let me know they had my scriptures!

-The person in the video I watched that gave a man $700 who needed $650 to get off the streets and back into truck driving.

People You'd Love to Meet:
-That person who helped me get my scriptures back. (I awkwardly gave them cookies, grabbed my scriptures, and peaced) I'd like to actually get to know them.
-More people who are pursuing life coaching.

Inspiring People I Did Meet:
-Johnny Liew- He taught me about how it was to go down a science path, teach science, and then start pursuing Marriage&Family Therapy.
-The person who helped me get my scriptures back. (Did I say that I'm forever grateful for that act of kindness? Because I am.)

Sometimes B is > than A

"You know, Tim. Sometimes you have to ask yourself,'What's more important- an A or a B?'"
My grandma said this to me once when I was having a rough semester.
After hearing this wise statement from a such a wise person, my outlook on life changed.

Peace.
Hope.
Faith.
Patience.

I felt like so many uplifting feelings flooded my mind and my heart.

Many people would wonder why this was such a revelatory experience for me.
It was
because
My answer wasn't "Well, an A is always more important, of course."

Perfectionist.
OCD.
Whatever you'd like to call it, I had high expectations in my mind.
Not the kind of high expectations that cause people to progress and become better versions of themselves.
The expectations
 were higher.

As I thought about what my wise grandma had said, I realized
Sometimes a B is better than an A.

If a B means that you're mentally healthy and happy about life,
Then a B is greater than an A.

After that talk with Grandma, I changed my priorities.
God.
Family. Friends. Self.
School.

I'm not saying, I dropped all attention on school.
In fact, I did the opposite,
but
In a way one wouldn't usually think of.

I called family.
I spent time with friends.
I slept.
I cooked.
I ate.
I drank water.
I exercised.
I study scriptures more diligently.
I prayed more fervently.
I served others.

Step
    By
          Step
It certainly was.
I couldn't have done that all in
One
Fell
Swoop.

How does one put more attention in school by not putting as much attention into it?
Quite the paradox.

I learned by prioritizing my life, my study sessions were much more
effective.
In fact,
I am doing just as well, if not better than I did before.

All because, sometimes a B is more important than an A.
